Dish Television problem

I recently had DISH installed at my home. My problem is every time we turn on the micro-wave it knocks off the satellite reception. Then we have to wait till the popcorn is done then go through that re-setting procedure which takes over ten minutes. Anyone know why this is happening. I am reluctant to call the "those" friendly folks at DISH as the phone loop takes an hour and I'm not sure that some high school student in India knows about the quirks we have here on the island. Is there a cure for this or is my home possessed?

Microwaves & DISH.

Your Microwave OVEN doesn't operate on the same frequency as Dish Network, but the level of interference can be sufficiently high to cause disruption in satellite reception. Most Microwaves operate at about 2300 mega hertz (MHz). Your Dish network receiver is at about 12800 MHz. A multiple of the the microwave output at 3X or 4X or 5X can easily disrupt the extremely sensitive Dish Receiver.

My qualifications to diagnose the fault? I worked for several decades as a Cable TV Engineer and am currently employed as an Aerospace Electronics Engineer. I have worked in the satellite reception field as well.

Issues with the DISH installation can be that the Microwave and Dish Antenna share the same outlet string from the circuit breaker. Can you try moving the microwave to another room to see if the problem is lessened? Designs of older microwaves may offer less shielding though they may meet health and safety requirements. Having the DISH Antenna mounted close to the Microwave (say within 25 feet) can also be problematic.
Tighten any loose coaxial connections anywhere in the receiver circuits all the way to the antenna. Don't over look the TV connections.
The microwave's shielding could be due to poor door seals, power supply design, or loose hinging contributing to high energy leakage.
Other common findings can include the antenna coaxial wiring might be routed too near the electrical wiring. d) or there is insufficient grounding at the antenna. e) or the coaxial wiring between the receiver box and the antenna could be "double shielded."

I hope this helps take some of the mystery out of your haunting problem.

It seems I have two

It seems I have two problems. My dish(s) are within that 25 foot mark and the microwave is one of the built-in 1960's Donna Reed types. I'll try changing electical circuts but I think we need to update the microwave, which means countertops, stove and whatever else she wants.

Thanks for the advise
